Carol Chivers, 74, of Orford, NH passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 at Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH.

Carol is the daughter of the late Howard and Jane (Gile) Chivers of Hanover, NH. Carol is survived by her life partner of 37 years, James “Jim” Fields whom she shared a life, home and family with. She is also survived by her stepdaughter Becky Fields Byrd & her husband Robert of Autryville, NC, her stepson John Fields & his wife Michelle of Orford, NH, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, her sister Sandy Chivers of Hanover, NH her brother Gile Chivers of Lebanon, NH, niece Catherine Chivers of Hanover, NH, and many loved ones in the Fields, Chivers & Gile families.

Carol was born on June 9, 1949 in Hanover, NH where she also attended school and graduated from Hanover High School in 1967. She continued her education attending Cazenovia Junior College where she studied business. Carol’s love for business was an asset while she was employed as an executive secretary at The First National Bank of Boston for 25 years. Carol’s experience in business then led her to employment with the Aloha Foundation in Fairlee, VT for 15 years where she worked as a camp organizer. Carol then assisted in the Orford School System working with students with special needs for several years until she retired. After retirement Carol found ways to give back to her community by volunteering in many places with the Orford Historical Society and the Orford Social Library being her favorites.

Carol had many loves in her life beginning with her love of Lake Temagami in Ontario, Canada where her parents were the owners & directors of Keewaydin Camp & the Ojibway Family Lodge. She spent the majority of her summers there with her sister & brother growing up and continued to visit almost every summer until her health began to decline. Growing up Carol enjoyed many fun times with Sandy & Gile at the family lodge and later as an adult continued to love her time there with her family and many friends. Carol also loved sports especially her Boston teams & Nascar cheering on the Fords. She attended many years of Red Sox games while residing in Boston & later in life many Nascar races with Jim. She loved history & books and this was something her & her life partner Jim enjoyed together. Over the years they would research places of interest and then map out a plan and travel to their scheduled destinations which would always include a stop in NC to visit their daughter.

Most recently one of Carol’s favorite things was gardening. She loved fresh flowers and always had a large garden at home. The last few months of her life she was able to enjoy the Meadow Courtyard Garden at Grafton County Nursing Home where she & Jim would often sit and enjoy their time together.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted by Rand-Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Dartmouth College Cemetery with Pastor Richard Hodges officiating.
